Went too my second drink and draw in Newcastle (uk) last saturday, once again had a fantastic night. There were few people there that had not made it to the last one so it was great to see some more work by others.

i decided too do something different this month, i thought id re-do and old comic i did, the comic is called Z.D.Z (Zombie Destruction Zone) subtitle: Say good bye to Hollywood.
It was created and written by Unico Comics Phil Cuthbertson for an anthology put together by the Newcastle branch of Traveling man ( uk comic book chain store) and was given away as part of the free comics book day a couple of years ago, it seemed to go down well with people i spoke too who had read it.

Now the plan was to also include this short story in the up coming Unico Collections, but looking back over it, i was not happy with most of the art work, it was ok for then but its two years later, im a much better artist now than i was then and would not have felt comfortable putting it in the collections issue as a representation of my work, after all were planning on taking these to conventions and i make no secret of the fact i want to make a living as a comic book artist and only want people to see my best work.

Now back to the drink and draw. I thought if im doing this again its a good opportunity to try something i havent done before.
In the past ive done the pencils, ink then colour but after seeing some work by Lee Carter (link below) i thought i would (after re-drawing the comic) colour over the pencils and use textures to help define the work. Its a pretty dark story and i think this gritty approach would suit it perfectly.
So on saturday night i managed to get all the rough work done and the first page and hope to get the rest done this weekend while traveling too and from the bristol comic con!.
